Commercial Projects
Our professionals also provide a turnkey solution for commercial projects. Here are details about some of the commercial projects we have completed:

  • PROJECT TITLE: Commercial Warehouse and Office Building, Edison, New Jersey:
  • SINs 899-1, 899-2, 899-4, and 899-8

Prestige Environmental was retained to perform remedial investigations to evaluate the soil and groundwater quality at the site and environmental impact on the nearby brook due to discharge of petroleum products from a 4000-gallon diesel tank, a 2000-gallon gasoline tank, and a 2000-gallon heating oil underground storage tank (UST). The scope of services included:

* Baseline environmental assessment
* Wetlands survey and environmental impact statement
* Identification of receptors and impact to wetlands and brook
* Feasibility and risk analysis
* Pollution prevention plans and countermeasures
* Hazardous substance assessment
* Waste characterization and disposal of contaminated soil and liquid waste
* Product recovery and disposal
* Design and implementation of soil boring program
* Installation of groundwater monitoring wells
* Soil and groundwater investigation
* Surface water and sediment sampling
* Evaluation of migration pathways and off-site sources of contamination
* Design of a dual-phase soil/vapor extraction (SVE) system
* Permit applications and approvals for the soil/vapor extraction (SVE) system
* Preparation of Remedial Workplans and Investigation Reports
* Liaison with the regulatory agencies
* Successful negotiations with the State of New Jersey for remediation grant

Twelve monitoring wells were installed and several soil borings were advanced by Prestige Environmental in April 2000. Several rounds of soil, groundwater, and sediment sampling were conducted between April 2000 and May 2004 to evaluate environmental quality and impact to the brook; to determine groundwater flow direction; to delineate free product impacted soils; and to identify other areas of concern and off-site sources of contamination. A pilot test for the dual-phase SVE system was conducted, and based upon successful results a conceptual design for the full-scale SVE remedial system to reduce the concentration of soil and groundwater contaminants was developed. Prestige Environmental has obtained permits from the NJDEP Air Quality Program for the installation and operation of the SVE system, and a discharge permit from the local Middlesex County Utilities Authority (MUA). The next phase of site remediation, i.e. installation and operation of remedial system is scheduled to start from August 2006.

* Preparation of Remedial Investigation Reports and Expert Report
* Liaison with the regulatory agencies
* Preparation of cost estimates for site remediation
* Successful negotiations with the State of New Jersey for remediation grant
* Negotiations with responsible parties during settlement of a lawsuit

On behalf of New West Urban Renewal Company Ltd.,  Prestige Environmental prepared a report to give its opinion as to who and what caused the soil and groundwater contamination at the site located at 95 Orange Street in Newark, New Jersey. The facility was owned and occupied by Westinghouse from the late 1800s/early 1900s until December 29, 1983, to manufacture electric meters, electrical instruments, recording instruments, protective relays, voltage regulators, automotive generator motor equipment, street arc lamps, and ventilating motors.

After purchasing the property in December 1983, New West discovered that the building and the soil and groundwater at the site were contaminated. New West subsequently commenced litigation against Westinghouse for the contamination at the site. The expert opinions expressed in Prestige Environmental were based upon the results of field investigations and a review of relevant documents. Based upon correlation between contaminants detected and chemicals and substances used by Westinghouse during its many years of operations at the site, Prestige Environmental successfully concluded, with a reasonable degree of scientific certainty, that Westinghouse caused the contamination at the site.
